Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
Rite of Election 2006 Photos Pro-Cathedral Sunday 5th March, 3.30pm On Sunday 5th March, the first Sunday of Lent, 17 Catechumens from 7 parishes in the Diocese of Dublin were elected for initiation at the forthcoming Easter Vigil. This beautiful rite, called the Rite of Election, took place in the Pro Cathedral. Bishop Raymond Field presided. After the Rite of Election, the Rite of Recognition of Candidates for Reception into the full Communion of the Catholic Church was celebrated. 6 Candidates from 5 parishes were presented. The Rite of Election is the only part of Initiation that takes place at Diocesan level. The preparation and the other rites take place in the parish. This is all part of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, the journey by which adults become Catholics, through the three sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, celebrated at the Easter Vigil.
